Benefits of Graffiti

Graffiti art has a wide range of benefits. First of all, because artists’ identities are usually unknown, they feel freer via graffiti to express their ideas on controversial or sensitive issues.  Take the case of teenagers, they usually choose graffiti to draw paintings, for their parents or friends cannot judge their ideas and opinions. Furthermore, because their illustrations are unknown, many painters prefer graffiti to express theirs against government views. Secondly, the majority of graffiti artists make their graffiti in public areas, which makes their art more accessible and easier to people from diverse social status. For instance, in a study conducted in the UK in 2019, it was found that while approximately 23 thousand people see the paintings in art galleries every year, an average of 40 thousand people see the graffiti in streets every year. Finally, graffiti enables ideas to spread very fast. As an illustration, when Banksy drew a ‘Girl with a Red Baloon’ in 2002, it appeared everywhere in a very short time by means of breaking news, TV shows, and Twitter. Thus, everyone all around the world talked about what its message was. As a result, it became the most spoken topic in social media in that year. In conclusion, graffiti provides the opportunity for unchained thoughts to spread faster and make a piece of art reachable to everyone.
