Many changes have been observed in the way people communicate from past to present. In particular, with the advancement of technology and the inventions found, the way societies communicate has developed and has taken its present form. Media tools are used by many people today, including newspapers, books, radio, television, telephone, computer, and internet. Media tools change and transform according to the wants and needs of the society. Recently, the tool that almost everyone prefers to use is the internet. Besides, social media is one of the most preferred tools on the internet. Among the top social media platforms are Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Whatsapp, Telegram, and so on, and access to these sites is very simple. According to We Are Social and Hootsuite’s “Digital 2020” report published in 2020, more than 4.5 billion people are using the internet now, while social media users have passed the 3.8 billion marks. Nearly 60 percent of the world’s population is already online. Well, have you ever noticed that social media is a hidden treasure? I strongly believe that social media has a number of positive effects on society for three reasons: information access, the use of social media in business life, and having a communication network.
The first reason why social media is beneficial for society is information access. In the first place, social media is the first source of information for people today, as it makes developments, news, and information available instantly all over the world. For instance, people can directly view any news, a topic of discussion, or an event on Twitter, and freely share their opinions from there. In the second place, social media provides you with finding your passion. To illustrate, you can find movies, TV series you want to watch or music you want to listen to via such social media platforms as Youtube, Netflix, and Spotify. You can also find more detailed information about an artist you admire. Finally, you can learn a topic you want to research or find a lot of information on points that you cannot do in your homework. What’s more, many instructors, who are experts in their fields, shoot videos on Youtube. In brief, it seems to me that people can easily access information on social media.
The second reason why I believe social media has many advantages is the use of social media in business life. First of all, social media is the most profitable platform for any brand to advertise itself. Many companies and important brands are now using social media effectively and bringing their products or innovations to large audiences. Secondly, social media provides income opportunities for producers without capital, individuals who want to work from home, housewives and many more. Furthermore, there are many job opportunities for college students who need money, depending on their field such jobs as translator, online assistance, or selling photos. Lastly, new job descriptions have emerged, with the popularity of social media. For example, the social media professionals are responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring strategies to increase brand or name awareness. To sum up, it appears to me that social media is used in business life.
The last reason why I think social media is useful for society is having a communication network. For one thing, social media is the most common media tool for you to open live broadcasts and freely share your thoughts with many different people at the same time. As an illustration, parents with children with SMA are requesting financial help from people for their child’s illness by broadcasting live on Instagram in these days. For another thing, thanks to social media, it is possible to satisfy you are longing with your loved ones who live far away. To exemplify, you can talk to your family or friends by video calling, despite your distances. Finally, you can meet new people with common interests. Additionally, the beauty of social media is that you can connect with anyone to learn and share your thoughts, regardless of location and religion. In conclusion, in my opinion, social media has a communication network in many ways.
All things considered, it seems to me that social media has a large number of positive effects on society. Among these effects, information access, the use of social media in business life, and having a communication network are the most important. In addition, you have the freedom to express yourself through social media and there are many options you can improve yourself. Of course, social media also has many disadvantages. However, I believe that if social media is used consciously, those disadvantages can be turned into an advantage. My advice is that instead of using social media to waste time, people should use it when necessary and for matters that will benefit them.
